Paleodicots- are flowering plants that are considered to be primitive due to them being presumed to be the first angiosperms.
Three orders of Paleodicots- Magnoliales, Piperales, Laurales
Four families of Paleodicots- Annonaceae, Magnoliaceae, Piperaceae, Lauraceae
Carpels- a tissue of the parent sporophyte where the ovules are enclosed. A structure that differs angiosperms from other seed plants.
Stigma- a specialized portion of the carpel where the microspores or pollen grains germinate. This is also one of the contributing factors as to how pollination in angiosperms is indirect.
Angion and sperma- Greek words which means vessel and seed respectively.
Fruit- an important unit of dispersal of the angiosperms.
Species representative of the family Annonaceae- Annona muricata

Species representative of the family Piperaceae- Piper nigrum
Species representative of the family Lauraceae- Persea americana
