The heart

• Blood flow through the heart

  1. Right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body

  2. Deoxygenated blood moves through to right ventricle

  3. Right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs through pulmonary artery

  4. Left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs through pulmonary vein

  5. Oxygenated blood moves to left ventricle

  6. Left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood out to the whole body (via aorta)

  • Has a much thicker wall than the right ventricle
