  • The Bulldog
    • A squat, smooth-haired breed of dog has been NU's mascot since its participation in inter-collegiate activities. His ugly mug belies his tenacity, courage and equable disposition – these are NU team's particular brand of play. The Bulldogs have in various instances exhibited their tenacity despite all odds.
  • The Evolution of the NU Logo
    1. 1900-2008: Carried the woman which symbolized the mother country-the Philippines
    2. 2008: Curved octagonal border with bold spelling of National University and the year of its establishment
    3. Later version: Yellowish curved hendecagonal border with royal blue dominant interior background, harp shaped shield added behind Mother Country, "Legally incorporated and duly accredited" and year 1900 omitted
    4. 2009: Inscription "Legally incorporated and duly accredited" removed, background of Mother Country patterned after Philippine flag with three stars, official colors became Royal Blue and Yellow Gold, year 1900 restored
    5. 2017: Shifted to shield-like shape of the nation's coat-of-arms with a royal blue silhouette, lettering NU added, Mother Country omitted, year 1900 retained
  • The original seal of NU was given by Crispulo to Mariano in 1903 in appreciation for the establishment of Colegio Filipino.

    Internalizing all that is best in the Filipino, with the time-honored values and deep spirituality stamped upon our education for Philippine citizenship that is compatible with global progress, kinship, and universal culture guided by intense nationalism, democracy, and evolving internationalism

    1. Compiled, edited, and wrote the 7-volume Philippine Readers (reading excerpts for elementary and high school students)
