Cards (17)

  • hypothesis testing – is a decision making process for evaluating claims about the population
  • statistic – data from population
  • parameter – data from sample
  • hypothesis testing – basically testing an assumption that we can make about the population
    1. Null Hypothesis (Ho)
    2. Alternative Hypothesis (Ha)
  • null hypothesis – states that there is no difference between the parameters
  • alternative hypothesis – states that there is difference between the two parameters
  • Null Hypothesis – equal to, the same as, not changed from, is
  • alternative hypothesis
not equal, different from, change from, not the same as.
    > greater than, above, higher than, longer than, bigger than, increased, at least.
< less than, below, lower than, smaller than, shorter than, decreased or reduced from, at most.
  • if the parameter not equal it is two tailed test
  • if the parameter is greater than it is one tailed, right tailed test
  • if the parameter is smaller than it is one tailed, left tail test.
  • type 1 errror – rejecting the null hypothesis when it is true.
  • type 2 error – accepting the null hypothesis when it is false.
  • rejection process (critical region) – it is the set of all values of the task statistics that causes us to reject the null hypothesis
  • non rejection region (acceptance region) – set of all values of the test statistic that causes us to fall to accept the null hypothesis.
  • critical value – is a point (boundary) it is compared to the test statistic to determine if the null hypothesis would be rejected.
