Mesh Topology

Cards (7)

  • Mesh topology
    • Looks more complicated than other topologies
    • Loads more connections
    • Every node is connected to every other node in the network
  • A full mesh topology is not very practical for a much larger network
  • Partial mesh topology
    • Many connections between nodes, but not every possible combination
    • Used to provide a backup mechanism in case one connection fails
  • In a full mesh topology, if one connection goes down or one system goes down

There is still access/redundancy built in
  • A partial mesh topology is not a full mesh, but it provides examples of redundancy in the system
  • Redundant connections
Provide an alternative route if the primary connection is busy or unavailable
  • Mesh topology
    • Requires a lot of cable and connections
    • Becomes exponentially more complicated with more devices added to the network
    • Difficult to add another device because it needs to be connected to everything else
