  • Readiness to learn- It refers to the time when the patient is willing to learn or is receptive to information

  • Complexity of task- It refers to the difficulty level of the task or the subject to be mastered
  • Motivation- It is strongly associated with emotional readiness or willingness to learn
  • Frame of mind- This refers to what the priorities of the learner are in terms of his needs which will determine his readiness to learn
  • Experiential Readiness- It refers to the previous learning experiences which may positive or negatively affect willingness to learn.
  • Past coping mechanism- This refers to how the learner was able to cope with of handle previous problems of situations and how effective were where the strategies used.
  • Locus of control- refers to motivation to learn which may be intrinsic or extrinsic.
  • Orientation- It refers to a person's point of view which may be parochial or cosmopolitan
  • Cosmopolitan Orientation- It is amore worldly perspective and more receptive to new or innovative ideas like the current trends and perspectives in health eduaction
  • Patient Michael has a more worldly perspective or more receptive to new and innovative ideas. He has a cosmopolitan orientation.
  • Learning style- This determinant refers to how the learner learns best
  • Learning needs- This refers to the gaps in knowledge that exist between a desired level of performance and actual level of performance.
  • Possible- These are learning needs which are not directly related to daily activities
  • Desirable- Learning need that must be met to promote well-being and are not life dependent fall under what criterion
  • Structured interviews- the nurse ask the patient some predetermined questions to gather information regarding learning needs.
  • Informal conversation- The nurse asks open-ended questions where the learner may reveal information regarding their perceived learning needs.
  • Readiness- This determinant of learning tells when the learner is receptive to learning.
  • Support System- It is composed of immediate family and friends, significant others, the community and church
  • Teachable moment- When the client and/ or the family become receptive to learner
  • Reachable Moments- Nurses provide emotional support to the patient and family members
  • Risk-taking behaviors- Activities that are taken without much thought to what their negative consequences or effects might be.
  • Developmental Stages- It determines the peak time for readiness to learn or "teachable moment"
  • Level of aspiration- Depends on the short-term and long-term goals that the learner has set which will influence his motivation to achieve.
  • Literacy- It is defined as the ability of adults to read, understand, and interpret information written at the eight grade level.
  • Health Literacy- It refers to "how well an individual can read, interpret, and comprehend health information or maintaining a high level of wellness"
  • Readability- The ease with which written or printed information can be read
  • Comprehension- The degree to which individuals understand what they have read; the ability to grasp the meaning of the message.
  • Reading or word recognition- The process of transforming letters into words and being able to pronounce them correctly
