  • To autofit contents
    1. Point to the right border of the column where you want to autofit the contents, until the pointer changes
    2. Double-click the right border of the column heading
  • Another way to autofit contents
    1. Click the column(s) you want to change
    2. On the Home tab, in the Cells group, click the Format button
    3. Select AutoFit Column Width
  • To wrap text
    1. Select the cells that extend beyond the column width
    2. On the Home tab, in the Alignment group, click the Wrap Text button
  • To merge cells
    1. Select the cells to merge
    2. On the Home tab, in the Alignment group, click the Merge & Center button or select from its drop-down
  • To rotate text
    1. Select the cell(s) with the text that you want to rotate
    2. Right-click on the selected cell(s)
    3. Select Format Cells or press Ctrl + 1
    4. On the Format Cells dialog box, in the Alignment tab, under Orientation, adjust as desired, and click OK
  • To automatically fill data
    1. Select the cell/cells that will serve as a basis for filling in other cells
    2. Drag the fill handle to the last cell you intend to fill in
  • To enter date and time into a cell
    1. Select the cell where the date and/or time will be placed
    2. Press Ctrl + ; (semicolon) to insert the current date
    3. Press Ctrl + Shift + ; (semicolon) to insert the current time
    4. Type =TODAY() in the formula bar to insert a date that auto-updates each time the worksheet is reopened
    5. Type =NOW() in the formula bar to insert date and time that auto-update each time the worksheet is reopened
  • To change the date and time format
    1. Right-click on the cell with the date or time
    2. Select Format Cells or press Ctrl + 1
    3. On the Format Cells dialog box, in the Number tab under Category, click Date or Time
    4. In the Type list, select a type, and click OK
  • To auto-fill date or time
    1. Select the cell that will serve as a basis for filling in other cells
    2. Drag the fill handle to the last cell you intend to fill in
  • To add a comment to a cell
    1. Select the cell that you want to add a comment
    2. Right-click the cell and then click Insert Comment
    3. On the Review tab in the Comments group, click New Comment
    4. Press Shift + F2
