• Garland (1994) argued that Lombrosso was responsible for scientific credibility
• Goring found that all convicts had the same low order intelligence, so criminality is genetic to a degree
• Lombrosso didn't use a control group in his experiment
• Not all criminals have abnormalities so Lombrosso's theory is not accurate
• Lombrosso's theory is not 100% accurate as disfiguration could come from accidents or non-genetic reasons
