Dramatic action in his works is created within temporal gaps in previously established biblical narratives
Milton utilises these gaps to provide characters with nuance, depth and subtly that is absent in the Bible - he redefines Satan and Delila, providing us with an insight into their motives and emotions
Delila - a biblical temptress with terrifying intellectual prowess; skilled use of rhetoric, tone and argument (her biblical counterpart, alternatively, barely speaks)
Satan - is humanised, to an extent; his descent into Evil occurs within the poem, and Milton allows us to see how his actions are influenced; his moment of almost-repent. (he feels jealousy, pride and envy)
