DISORDERS

• Acne - over secretion of sebum that causes of blockage of ducts
• Decubitus ulcers (bed sores) - injury to the skin and underlying tissue from prolonged pressure at the site
• Dermatitis - skin inflammation
• Eczema - an allergic reaction with an itchy rash, that may blister and is aggravated by infection, emotional stress, food allergy, and sweating
• Fever blister (cold sores) - blisters caused by the herpes simplex virus, usually at the edge of the lip
• Fungal infections - caused by dermatophyte fungi, which can produce itching, scaling, and erythema
• Impetigo - a highly contagious bacterial infection caused by Staphylococcus or Streptococcus, frequently seen in younger children
• Keloid - excessive collagen scar formation in the area of surgical incisions or skin wounds
• Pediculosis - lice infection
• Psoriasis - a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by itchy, scaly, red patches; scales are on top of raised lesions, called plaques

  • basal cell carcinoma
  • malignant melanoma
