Plant cell organisation

• Plant cells are organised into Tissues and Organs
• Plant organs are made of tissues
• Example of a plant tissue

  epidermal tissue- covers the whole plant
• Example of a tissue

  palisade mesophyll tissue- part of the leaf where most photosynthesis happens
• Example of a tissue


  Spongy mesophyll tissue- in the leaf that contains big air spaces to allow gases to diffuse in and out of cells
• Example of a tissue

  Xylem and Phloem- transport substances such as water, mineral ions and food around the plant
• Example of a tissue

  Meristem tissue- found at growing tips of shoots and roots and is able to differentiate into different types of plant cells, allowing plant to grow
• Epidermal tissue is covered with a waxy cuticle, which helps reduce water loss by evaporation
• Upper epidermis is transparent so light can travel to the Palisade layer
