Reactivity Series & Displacement Reactions

Cards (9)

  • Metals that loose electrons easily are the most reactive.
  • Group 1 Metals are the most reactive and they only need to loose 1 electron in their outer shell.
  • Transition Metals are not very reactive.
  • Metal + Acid -> Salt + Hydrogen gas
  • Metal + Water -> Metal Hydroxide + Hydrogen gas
  • Displacement: Where a more reactive metal replaces a less reactive metal.
  • You can measure temperature change as Most reactive metals produce the most heat.
  • Potassium is the most reactive, Sodium and Lithum. Are very violent, move vigourously and may explode. Anything below may bubble.
  • Group 7 (Halogens) Get less reactive going down. But have HIGHER melting and boiling points.
