The Haber Process

Cards (8)

  • The Haber Process is the production of Ammonia from Nitrogen and Hydrogen.
  • The Haber Process is always done at a temperature of 450 degrees and pressure of 200 atm (atmospheres).
  • In the Haber Process a Iron Catalyst is used.
  • The Ammonia Produced in the Haber Process is used to make Nitrogen based fertilisers, helping grow food.
  • In Order to make lots of Ammonia, You would need lots of Hydrogen - (Have to make from hydrocarbons) and Nitrogen - (easy to get as it is the most abundant gas).
  • The Haber reaction is reversible, some ammonia form will break back down to form Nitrogen and Hydrogen.
  • Ammonia has a low boiling point and is condensed into Ammonia Liquid to seperate from the Nitrogen and Hydrogen.
  • The Haber reacton produces heat which is exothermic.
