Cards (45)

  • SPLICES AND JOINTS - USED IN ELECTRICAL WORK TO CONNECT TWO OR MORE WIRES TOGETHER SECURELY.
  • Western Union Splice-this is the most common type of wire splice
  • Rat-tail joint- This is a splice that is used in a junction box and for connecting branch circuits.
  • Plain tap splice - this is also called a TAP JOINT,  used to connect a conductor to a running wire.
  •  Knotted or loop tap point joint- it is used where the splice is subject to strain or slippage. When there is no strain, the knot may be eliminated.
  • Ordinary cross joint- this is used where two tap conductors are to extend away from branch conductors in opposite directio
  • . Double wrapped cross joint- this is used identically for the same reason as the ordinary cross joint, with the advantage of being stronger
  • Duplex joint- this is used in a system which uses two wires such as nonmetallic-sheated cable, armored or BX cable, cords, and others.
  • Britannia joint- This is a form of electrical joint used for bare overhead wires where great tensile strength is required.
  • Small aerial joint - this is used mostly on outside work, or in locations where wires are subjected to considerable movement.
  • Terminating fixture joint - this is used to connect a small-diameter wire used in a branch circuit.
  • Electrician’s Knife – this is used for removing insulations or wire  conductors
  • Screwdrivers - These are used for driving wood
         screws, straightening wires, and tightening
         locknuts.
  • Long nose plier – These have tapered jaws for
making terminal hooks and for making
        electrical joints
  • Side cutting pliers – These are used for cutting  wire conductors from No.8 to No. 10.
  • side cutting pliers- It is also used for joining big conductors.
  • Diagonal pliers – these have an oblique cutting jaws for cutting small conductors in cramp places.
  • Gimlet -  this is a wire like boring tools used in making initial holes for split knob screws.
  • Nail hammer -  this is used for nailing work aside from a lot of other uses.
  • Hacksaw – this is used for cutting pipes, raceways, and cables. It is also used for cutting big conductors.
  • Reamer -  this is used for removing burrs on newly cut conduits. It is available in different sizes.
  • Flat file – this used for removing outside      burrs in conduits
  • Wire stripper -  this is used for stripping or removing the insulation of connecting wires.
  • Soldering iron – this is used to solder two connecting wires.
  • Wire gauge – this is a slotted circular disk used to find the diameter or size of an electrical wire.
  • Fish wire -  this is a special flexible steel wire used for pulling the conductors in conduits
  • Portable drill -  this is a small drilling machine with a chuck capacity of ¼ to 3/8 inch.
  • Portable drill - it is used in making holes on metal sheets and concrete walls.
  • Push-pull rule -  this is a tool used to measure heights for switches and outlets.
  • Test light – this is an electrical test equipment used to determine the presence or absence of an electric voltage in a piece of equipment under test.
  • Voltmeter – this is an instrument used for measuring potential difference or voltage between two points in an electrical or electronic circuit.
  • Ammeter – This is an electrical instrument used to measure the flow of electric current in a particular circuit
  • Micrometer – this is a device used to measure very small distances and it is also used to measure small diameters and thickness of cables.
  • Clamp ammeter -  this is used to measure current flowing in a conductor. It is clamped or hanged in a conductor.
  • Lamp holder – this is an electrical device that is used to hold incandescent lamp and compact fluorescent lamps.
  • Convenience outlet -  this is an opening or series of openings connected to a wires power source meant to power electrical equipment and components.
  • Switch- this is a device that connects and disconnects the circuit from the line.
  • Male plug -  this is a connector attached to a wire, cable, or piece of hardware having one or more exposed unshielded terminal/s, and constructed I n such a way that it can be inserted snugly into a receptacle(female plug) to ensure a reliable physical and electrical connection.
  • Fuse -  this is a device that automatically melts in case of abnormal conditions like overload or short circuits. Fuses are classified as permanent type and renewable type. Fuses are rated in amperes.
  • Electrical junction boxes – these are devices that contain junctions or intersection that allow the wiring in the home or public building to interface with the main power supply provided by a local utility.
