  • The Southern Strategy was a strategy used by Nixon to gain more voteres in the south. He appealed to them through more regressive policies and beliefs.
  • The Watergate Scandal was a significant political scandal involving Nixon. People who worked for Nixon broke into the headquarters of the Democratic Party in order to gain some kind of favor for the next election and re-elect Nixon.
  • The Iranian Hostage Crisis happened due to a revolution in Iran against their former king, the Shah- whom the US had taken in and treated medically. In return for the hostages, they wanted the Shah so they could execute him for his mistreatment of the people.
  • The energy crisis of 1973 was caused by the OPEC oil embargo. This was a sanction put on oil trade with the US as they had supported the Israeli army.
