  • Management of Disc related pain - nociceptive pain:
    • discs can give rise to local pain so the the pain could be nociceptive
  • Management of Disc related pain - neuropathic pain:
    • result of a lesion or disease of the somatosensory nervous system
    • can be located within the peripheral or central NS with pain/symptoms described as felt down in a dermatological distribution
    • Pts could also report negative neuro symptoms / hypoactivity of the nerves - includes loss of sensation (anaesthesia) or loss of strength
    • They can also report positive neuro symptoms / hyperactivity of NS - includes sharp shooting pain, burning pain, pins and needles (paraesthesia) - these symptoms also referred to as radicular pain
  • Management of Disc related pain - nociplastic pain:
    • when disc related pain leads onto becoming quite chronic and persistent and sometimes disabling, people with pain of disc related origin can now be presenting with a nociplastic pain mechanism - pain that cant be explained properly by a peripherally nociceptive drive
