DISTANT object (opposite for near) = ciliary muscles relax, suspensory ligaments pulled tight, lens is pulled thin therefore only refracts light rays slightly
Short sighted = elongated eyeball (distance between retina and lens is too big) and lens is too thick and curved (means light focuses in front of retina)
Short sightedness corrected by placing a concave (diverging) lens in front of eye
Long sightedness = eyeball too short (distance between lens and retina is too small) and loss of elasticity in lens ( it cannot become thick enough to focus)
Long sightedness can be corrected by putting a convex (converging) lens in front of the eye
