data analysis

Cards (10)

  • -          another limitation of qualitative data is that it can be difficult to analyse as the data cannot be analysed statistically and is also very time consuming to analyse as the researcher ahs to write up a transcript of each participants data then spend time going through each one – meaning its not possible to use as many participants which makes it more difficult to generalise the findings to others
  • -          a limitation of qualitative data is that it is subjective – during analysis researchers tend to look for themes and this is open to bias as different researchers may interpret the data differently which in turn can affect the validity of any conclusion drawn
  • -          another strength of qualitative data is that it can explain why because of the level of detailed information gathered which can be used to explain the reasoning behind behaviours which can help develop more accurate theories and useful practical applications
  • -          a strength of qualitative data is that it is rich in detail because it allows participants to express their thoughts , feelings and the ability to gather lots of detail about each participant – this gives the researcher more meaningful data that is more representative of real life
  • -          qualitative data is often analysed by looking for themes in participants responses
  • -          qualitative data is date that is in words and contains detailed information
  • -          another limitation of quantitative data is that it is narrow this is because only certain behaviours an phenomenon’s can be studied using quantitative data this therefore reduces the scope of study – and if it wanted to be studied and used quantitative  data the behaviour would have to be artificial
  • -          a limitation of quantitative data is that it doesn't tell us why for example it only tells us the amount of people who respond in a certain way and cannot tell us the reasons behind it behaviour which can make it difficult to develop suitable practical application
  • -          a strength of quantitative data  is that it is numerical so it does not require any interpretations using the researchers own personal beliefs so therefore it is less prone to bias it is also easy to analyse this is because statistical techniques are quick to carry out as there are computer programmes that can underlies the data which allows the researcher to use a larger sample size and increase the ability to generalise
  • -          quantitative data numerical data Which is analysed using statistical techniques
