  • Assisted suicide opposes three primary precepts:
    doesn't preserve innocent human life, incompatible with living peacefully in and ordered society and goes against God
  • double effect: a bad effect can sometimes be morally justified if its not the intended consequence
    • prescribing a potentially lethal dose of painkillers is arguably morally acceptable
  • Proportionalism is the view that in extraordinary situations it may be morally acceptable to break an otherwise universal moral rule
