Automated Systems

Cards (18)

  • What are "Non- Mechanical Systems?
Non mechanical systems are a procedure or task that is designed to perform a task along with the people & system involved. (i.e: a library system, waste removal, or healthcare system.)
  • What does Non-Mechanical things need to come to be?
The society has a demand or need for it. The users must be instructed by the directors or managers. (i.e: transportation system)
  • Inputs - What goes into the system. It can be information, materials, energy, etc.
  • Outputs - What comes out from the system. Can also be information, products, services, etc.
  • Processes - How the input is transformed into an output. This includes procedures, rules, policies, and instructions.
  • What is Productivity?
The amount of output of products or work is an amount of time.
  • What do you do to increase productivity?
The work needs to be done faster or more tasks need to be done at the same time (multi-tasking)
  • What is Mass Production?
It is when each employee completes the same task in a short amount of time. (i.e: a conveyor belt, which is called an assembly line.)
  • What is action at a distance?
Action at a distance is when two objects are not in contact with each other, but is able to push a force onto an object. (i.e: a ball falling to the ground.)
  • What is a contact force?
A force that acts when objects come in contact with each other.
  • What are Mass Produced items lower quality or higher quality?(sometimes)
    Lower quality
  • What are Automated Systems?
Automated Systems are when a machine replaces a human job.
  • What are the positives and negatives of an Automated system?
    Pros:
    • makes more money for the company.
    • Increase the number of products made at a lower cost,
    • create different types of jobs.
    Cons:
    • It takes away jobs,
    • the machines always need repair,
    • cost a lot of money to repair,
    • take up land space,
    • it consumes a lot of energy and could pollute more.
  • What is qualitively?
It involves makes general observations of the fabric, feel, and how good something is produced.
  • What is quantitatively?
It involves an analysis of numerical data.
  • What is Efficiency?
It is a measure of the useful output work done by a machine, compared to the useful input work.
  • How come no machine is 100%?
Because some of the input work is converted to heat due to... friction.
  • What are the six simple machines?
Pulley, Wheel & Axle, Inclined Plane, Screw, Wedge, Lever.
