RP11-Identifying transition metal ions

Cards (6)

  • Iron (ii) is a green solution, copper (ii) is a blue solution, iron (iii) is a purple solution, aluminium (iii) is a colourless solution.
  • With the addition of sodium hydroxide, Fe (ii) forms a green ppt, Cu (ii) forms a blue ppt, Fe (iii) forms a brown ppt, Al (iii) forms a white ppt.
  • With the addition of excess sodium hydroxide, there is no further change for Fe (ii), Cu (ii) or Fe (iii) but Al (iii), forms a colourless sln.
  • With the addition of ammonia, Fe (ii) forms a green ppt, Cu (ii) forms a blue ppt, Fe (iii) forms a brown ppt and Al (iii) forms a white ppt.
  • With the addition of excess ammonia, Fe (ii), Fe (iii) and Al (iii) have no further change, but Cu (ii) forms a deep blue sln.
  • With the addition of sodium carbonate, Fe (ii) forms a green ppt, Cu (ii) forms a blue green ppt, Fe (iii) forms a brown ppt and carbon dioxide gas, and Al (iii) forms a white ppt and carbon dioxide gas.
