  • Integrative Art as Applied to Contemporary Art
  • The Artist is Present

    Performance Art by Marina Abramovic in 2010 at MoMA to explore the complex relationship between her and the audience using her own body to convey ideas and challenge herself and participants emotionally, intellectually, and physically. The performance ran 8 hours daily for almost three months and she met the gaze of 1,000 strangers. The show was spiritual and cathartic for some, pretentious and self-indulgent to others.
  • The Lovers
    1988 performance by Ulay and Marina Abramovic where they planned to walk the entire Great Wall of China alone, starting from opposite ends and meeting in the middle to get married. They walked for 90 days and covered roughly 2,000 km each. They waited 5 years to perform The Lovers, which transformed from wedding to divorce.
  • Etymology of Art
    The Latin word "ars," which means skill. Therefore, it is synonymous with skill, artifact, cunning, artifice, and craft, which all mean the faculty of what is devised.

Contemporary artists are often self-taught, welcome new mediums, and focus on the process of art-making rather than originality.
