snow collects in north facing hollows on the side of a mountain as these areas are colder
snow compresses into ice
the glacier moves down due to gravity
freeze thaw weathering erodes the back of the hollow. this is when melted ice gets into the cracks of the rock, freezes, then expands. eventually rock will break apart
abrasion causes the base of the hollow to deepen as the rocks embedded in the glacier erode the hollow
after ice melts an armchairhollow is left. this is called a corrie
water can gather in the hollow. this is called a corrie lochan
