    • the aim is the purpose of the study. It is a general statement of what the researcher intents to investigate.
    • the hypothesis is a precise statement which clearly states the relationship between the variables being investigated.
    • directional hypothesis states the direction of the different or relationship between variables.
    • non-directional hypothesis does not state the direction of the difference or relationship between variables.
    • The Independent variable is the aspect which has been manipulated by the researcher or changes naturally to have an affect on the DV.
    • the dependent variable is the aspect measured by the researcher, caused by a change in the IV.
    • operationalising is when a researcher clearly defines the variables in terms of how they are measured.
