MATH STATISTICS

Cards (16)

  • Statistics - is a branch of Mathematics that deals with the scientific collection organization presentation analysis and interpretation of numerical data in order to obtain useful and meaningful information.

  • collection of data - refers to the process of obtaining information
  • organization and presentation of data - refers to the ascertaining manner of presenting the data into tables

    graphs or charts.
  • analysis of data - refers to the extracting relevant information from the given data from which numerical description can be formulated.
  • interpretation of data - refers to the task of drawing conclusions from the analyzed data.
  • DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS - A statistical method concerned with the collection

organization summarization and presentation of data. For example a chart or graph.
  • INFERENTIAL STATISTICS - A statistical method concerned with the analysis of a sample data leading to prediction

inferences interpretation decision or conclusion about the entire population.
  • variable - is a characteristic or attribute that can assume different values.
  • Data - are the values (measurements or observations) that the variables can assume.
  • NUMERICAL OR QUANTITATIVE VARIABLE - These are quantities that can be counted with your bare hands

can be measured with the use of some measuring devices or can be calculated with the use of mathematical formula.
  • CATEGORICAL OR QUALITATIVE VARIABLE - These are non-measurable characteristics that cannot assume a numerical value but can be classified into two or more categories.
  • DISCRETE VARIABLE – it is a count data.
  • CONTINUOUS VARIABLE – it is a measured data.
  • POPULATION - the totality of all the elements or persons for which one has interest at a particular time; a group that includes all the cases (individuals, objects, or groups) in which the researcher is interested.
  • SAMPLE - a subset of the population chosen to represent the population in a statistical analysis;
a small part or portion of a population that represents their characteristics or traits.
  • SAMPLING - refers to the method or process of selecting the members of sample from a population
