  • Music
    Vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion
  • Music speaks to all when words can fail

  • Music- may have begun when primitive people became aware of beautiful sounds of nature: chirping of birds, splash of waves, rustling of leaves, rumble of thunder etc.
    Music- Inspired by these sounds, they imitate it using their voice and materials that would produce them. Thus, they created music.
  • Voice - It is the most personal as it comes from within the person.
    Voice - The production of sound from the vocal chords. The sound projected by the voice is the most natural form of music.
  • Soprano - highest female singing voice.
    Mezzo-soprano - the voice that stands between the soprano and the contralto.
    Contralto -the lowest female voice
    Tenor -highest adult male singing voice.
    Baritone the voice that stands between the tenor and the bass.
    Bass - the lowest male voice and rich in quality.
    Instruments - These medium may be natural or invented to produce/ create distinct type of sounds.
    The principal types of such instruments, classified by the method of producing sound, are percussion, stringed, keyboard, wind, and electronic.
  • String Instruments- Any musical instrument that produces sound by the vibration of stretched strings, which may be made of vegetable fibre, metal, animal gut, silk, or artificial materials such as plastic or nylon.
    Plucked string- produce tones by plucking the strings with a finger or with a plectrum held in one's hand. Examples are guitar, ukelele, banjo etc.
    Bowed string- sound is produced by drawing a bow across strings, causing them to vibrate. The bow is a wooden stick with tight horsehair. Examples are violin and cello.
  • Woodwind Instruments- create sounds by blowing into them. The air blown causes vibration which can be altered by shortening and lengthening the column of air inside the instrument.
    • Examples are piccolo, flute, hom, clarinet etc.
    Brass Instruments- they have cup-shaped mouthpieces and expands into a bell-shaped end.
    Examples are trumpet and trombone.
    Percussion Instruments- Makes sound by hitting them with the hands, special sticks or by striking or shaking their parts together.
    Examples are xylophone, tambourine, castanets, cymbals etc.
  • Keyboard Instruments - Makes sound by means of a keyboard which consists of a series of black and white keys.
    • Examples are piano, organ, harpsichord etc.
  • Classical Music- music written in the European tradition during a period lasting approximately from 1750 to 1830, when forms such as the symphony, concerto, and sonata were standardized.

  • Folk Music
    Music that originates in traditional popular culture or that is written in such a style. Folk music is typically of unknown authorship and is transmitted orally from generation to generation.

  • Pop Music
    Pop is short for popular, and it's the most mainstream musical genre. Pop music is the most accessible of all genres, with its songs being easy to listen to and sing along with.

  • Jazz
    A kind of music in which improvisation is typically an important part. A very rhythmic, has a forward momentum called "swing," and uses "bent" or "blue" notes.
  • Rock music- typically features a driving, energetic rhythm, often created by drums and a bass guitar playing together in a 4/4 time signature.
