what is the symbol/chemical equation of photosynthesis?
6 C2 + 6 H2O -> 6 02 + C6 H12 O6
structure of a leaf
A) chloroplasts
B) upper
C) gaurd
D) xylem
E) spongy
adaptations of the leaf for maximum photosynthesis:
packed with chloroplasts
transparent upper epidermis
large surface area
thin for rapid diffusion
air spaces for gaseous exchange
stomata for gaseous exchange
waxy cuticle to repel water
test a leaf for starch method:
submerge leaf under water and leave for 2 minutes so that the leaf softens and the cell membrane brakes down
pour the water out and cover the leaf with ethanol and put the test tube into hot water - you can notice the leaf going pale and the ethanol going green from the chlorophyll being removed
remove the leaf with tweezers and dip into hot water to soften it
spread the leaf out onto a petri dish so it's flat
cover the leaf with iodine and look at the colour change
