Diffusion

Cards (6)

  • Diffusion is the spreading out of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
  • Diffusion occurs in solutions and gases
  • The bigger the concentration gradient (difference in concentration) the faster the diffusion rate
  • Higher temperatures result in faster diffusion rate as particles have more energy
  • Very small molecules such as oxygen, glucose, amino acids and water can move in and out of the cell membrane by diffusion.
  • The larger the surface are the faster the diffusion rate as more particles can pass through at once
