  • Relationship between CES and LSS:
    • CES can be caused by many factors that affect LS at the cauda equina and cause compression on the nerve roots in that region
    • one of these factors is LSS as its a progression of OA that narrows that canal so can cause spinal compression of those roots
    • however the presentation of LSS or neurogenic claudication could include bilateral symptoms (pain, weakness, anaesthesia, paraesthesia) that are going into both legs - these are red flags of the lumbar spine
    • CES can be a gradual onset, insidious or traumatic so pts need to be educated on symptoms
