    1. Two parallel fluorescent tubes of equal light output, with starters
    2. A built in, or attached, spotlight is an advantage

  • Viewing box cleaning
    1. Remove plug from power socket
    2. Remove the front window
    3. Clean window on both sides (intensifying screen cleaner is a useful cleaning agent as it has anti-static properties)
    4. Clean the back plate and fluorescent tubes
    5. Inspect window for damage
    6. Make sure that tubes and starters are firmly in place
    7. Replace window
    8. Test
  • Dust on the window or tube will reduce the light output
  • Marks on the window can be misleading

    1. Remove plug from socket
    2. Remove front window
    3. Check condition of wiring
    4. Check electrical connections
    5. Check stability of switch
    6. Check installation of fluorescent tubes and starters
    7. Replace front window
    8. Replace plug in socket
    9. Test
  • Replacing fluorescent tubes at different time intervals, or with a different type of tube, may produce a difference in light intensity from one side of the screen to the other or one viewing box to another
  • If, after replacing only one tube, it is found to be brighter than the remaining one, replace both
  • The working tube that has been removed can be matched with another one at a later date
  • Room light levels in the film viewing area should not be too high
  • A bright spotlight should be available for viewing dark areas of the film
  • The viewing box should be mounted at the correct height for easy viewing
  • Light source should be even and the same as other boxes
