  • What would happen to red blood cells when they are placed in water:
    They would gain water and swell because the water concentration would be higher outside the cell than in the cell which means the water would move down it's concentration gradient into the cell.
  • Isotonic - Has the same conc of solutes inside and outside the cell.
    Hypertonic - Has higher conc of solutes outside the cell.
    Hypotonic - Has higher conc of solute inside the cell.
