  • Recent developments in shanty towns
    -in Mumbai, India local authorities have improved sanitation by providing more toilets;
    -improving water supply by installing more pipes and providing cleaner water.
    -The quality of houses have been improved through self-help schemes;
    -so people improve the quality of their homes by making their walls stronger and installing legal electricity

    -Many old buildings like Candleriggs fruit market are no longer needed or suited to their original purpose so are converted into houses, hotels etc.
