Teachings of the Shema

Cards (4)

  • Opening line of the Shema is said twice a day and reminds Jews of their monotheistic belief. "Hear, O, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One" Deuteronomy 6:4
  • "Be upon your hearts" - you must keep God close to you in all that you say and do
  • "Write them on your doorframes" - Refers to the use of a mezuzah
  • "Lie down and when you get up" - Shema said twice a day; last thing at night and first thing in the morning so God is your first and last thought of the day
