blood pressure

Cards (2)

  • what is blood pressure/ peripheral resistance?
    • measure of hydrostatic force of blood against vessel walls.
    • contact between blood and vessel walls causes friction, slowing blood flow.
    • SIDE NOTE: arterioles/capillaries have greater surface area, resisting blood flow more to reduce pressure
  • tissue fluid formation?
    • formed when plasma is forced out capillaries, carrying nutrients and oxygen with
    • cells absorb nutrients from tissue fluid and give out waste
    • tissue fluid moves back into capillaries via osmosis
    • 20% tissue fluid drains to blind-ended lymph cap, flowing through lymph vessels returning to lymph fluid to blood via thoracic duct.
    • build up of tissue fluid in tissues can cause swelling, aka oedema.
