    Creator of the Earth and all living things on it.

    The incarnation of God on Earth; Jesus. Jesus is believed to have been both fully God and fully human.

    He has been sent to influence, guide and sustain the Earth and all life on it. He's believed to be the unseen power of God at work in the world in the past, present and future.

    The act by which God brought the universe into being.

  • Is the Creation story taken literally?
    Most Christians don't take it literally, but as a metaphor for how God created everything. They are still open to the theories of evolution and the Big Bang theory but believe God started the process. However, some Christians believe that it did literally take place in 6 days - these people are called Creationists.

    That he was both fully God and fully human.

    It helps them to explain and understand some of Jesus' actions whilst on Earth, including miracles and his resurrection.

    The Roman method of execution by which criminals were fixed to a cross. Used to execute Jesus on Good Friday.

    Pontius Pilate.
  • How does the crucifixion affect Christians today?
    It gives them confidence that if they accept Jesus' sacrifice, sin can no longer destroy their lives because God forgives those who faithfully ask for forgiveness. They believe that suffering is part of life and having also experienced human suffering, God understands what it's like.
  • What is the resurrection?

    Resurrection means rising from the dead; Jesus rising from the dead on Easter day.
  • What is the ascension?

    The event, 40 days after the resurrection, when Jesus returned to God the Father in Heaven.
  • What is Heaven?

    A state of eternal happiness in the presence of God.
  • What was Jesus placed in after he died?
    A tomb.
  • How was it discovered that Jesus wasn't in the tomb anymore?
    There hadn't been time to anoint the body before he was put in the tomb, so a group of women who followed Jesus went to anoint his body and properly prepare him for the burial. However, he wasn't there.
  • What happened after the women discovered Jesus' body was missing?
    Two angels appeared to them and said that Jesus had risen and that they should spread the word of his return.
  • Why is the resurrection important to Christians?
    It is significant evidence of the divine nature of Jesus.
  • What is the significance of the resurrection and ascension for Christians today?
    • They believe the resurrection shows power of good over evil
    • They believe that by accepting Jesus, they can also be resurrected in some way. They have no need to fear death
    • Assures Christians that God will forgive their sins if they follow teachings of Christianity
    • Ascension shows that Jesus is with God. Paves the way for the coming of the Holy Spirit to provide comfort and guidance

    • Some believe that a persons soul is resurrected very quickly after death occurs
    • Some believe that in the future, when Jesus returns to judge, the dead will be raised
    • Catholic and Orthodox believe that the resurrection will be a bodily one and that people will receive their old bodies but in a glorified state in which suffering will not exist
