    previous viewpoints are adultist, instead, to look at if the position of childhood has improved, we must ask the children
    • Smart (2011): We need to focus on present tense of childhood to understand the child’s perspective e.g. children’s own definitions of who is family - multiple childhoods exist in a singular society, to understand this we must understand children lack power in relation to adults but they’re active agents in creating their own childhood.
