    • Christianity is the main religion in Great Britain 
    • It has 3 main traditions : Catholic , Protestant and Orthodox 
    • Christianity is monotheistic - meaning that Christians believe in one Supreme Being, God
  • What is Catholic Christianity
    Christianity based in Rome and led by the Pope
  • What is Orthodox Christianity
    Christians that split from Catholic Christianity in 1054 CE and practiced in Eastern Europe
  • What is Protestant Christianity
    • Christians that split from Catholic Christianity in the 16th Century and branched out into different denominations (distinct groups) 
    • These include : Baptist , Pentecostal , Methodist , United Reformed Churches 
    • Protestants agree that the Bible is the only authority for Christians
  • Despite their being different denominations in Christianity, all Christians share the same belief in God
  • What do Christians believe about God
    • God is the creator and sustainer of all that exists 
    • God works throughout history and inspires people to do God’s will 
    • People can have a relationship with God through prayer 
    • God is holy (set apart for a special purpose and worthy of worship)
  • What do the scriptures lead Christians to believe about God
    • There is only one God (The Nicene Creed) 
    • God is spirit (John 4:24) - neither male nor female , but has qualities of both 
    • Jesus is God’s son - the true representation of God on Earth (Hebrews 1:3)
