Lecture 7: Transcription, translation and mutationn

• Genetic Information Extraction:

  • RNA polymerase transcribes DNA into complementary mRNA.
  • Promoter sequences in DNA signal the beginning of a gene.
  • Differentiation between sense and template strands.
  • Transcription starts before the coding region and extends beyond.
  • Termination sequence signals the end of transcription.
  • mRNA strands are transcribed from both DNA strands randomly.
• This complex of small subunits, tRNA and mRNA recruit the large ribosomal subunit. The large subunit has two tRNA binding sites, the A site and the P site. When the large ribosomal subunit is recruited to the complex, it binds so that the met-tRNA is in the P site. Then the tRNA that corresponds to the next codon in line binds to the A site.
