  • heart = the pump that pushes blood around the body
  • pericardium = membrane enclosing the heart
    • holds heart in place + allows heart to move as it beats
  • right atrium = receives deoxygenated blood from the body
  • right ventricle = pumps blood into the lungs
  • pulmonary artery = carries deoxygenated into the lungs
  • pulmonary veins = brings oxygenated blood to heart from lungs
  • left atrium = receives oxygenated blood from lungs
  • left ventricle = pumps blood into aorta out of body
  • aorta = main artery that takes blood to all parts of the body (except lungs)
  • superior vena cava = major vein brining blood to heart from upper body
  • inferior vena cava = major vein brining blood back to heart from lower body
  • valves = prevents backwards flow of blood so blood only flows in one direction
  • valves between atria and ventricles = atrioventricular valves
  • valves between ventricles and arteries = semilunar valves
