  • Belief in one God
• Unique


  God is one whole being that cannot be divided, almighty and worthy of praise
• In synagogues there are no statues, idols or pictures of God
• Some Jews won't even write God's name because it is considered so mighty, unique and holy
• Shema


  A Jewish prayer that states "the Lord is one"
• The first commandment is to believe in and worship one God
• Synagogues contain no pictures or statues because God is the only one worthy of recognition
• Genesis


  The book in the Bible that describes the 7 days of creation
• Some Jews take the 7 days of creation literally, others see it as more metaphorical with hidden messages
• God's creation


  • God created the entire universe and brought order to it
  • God created humans in his image
  • God created the Sabbath day of rest
  • God gave humans responsibility to care for the environment
• The Hebrew phrase "tohu va bohu" means the earth was "formless and void" before God created order
• The quote "let us make mankind in our image" shows that human life is sacred
• God created everything in the universe by his word alone, showing his omnipotence
