DNA and proteins

• DNA is a double helix
• The base order of DNA codes for the order of amino acids which code for proteins function
• proteins are used for structure, hormonal, antibodies, receptors, enzymes
• a gene is a section of DNA that codes for a protein
• mRNA is made in the nucleus and carries a copy of bases from DNA to ribosomes and the the ribosome assembles amino acids into correct order to make a specific protein
• enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up chemical reactions and remain unchanged
• degradiaation is a breakdown reaction
• synthesis is a build up reaction
• degradiation: hydrogen peroxide is split into water and oxyden using catalase
• enzymes are complementry to a specific substrate
• becomes denatured ( active site will change shape ) past it optimum ph and temperature
