    • God the Holy Spirit-Source of strength which Christians find in their hearts
  • The Trinity helps Christians gain some understanding of God
  • Christian beliefs about Creation
    • Creationists believe that the Bible is true word for word. God made the world in 7 days and humans came from Adam and Eve
    • Liberal Christians believe that God made the world but maybe the Bible is more symbolic than accurate. Some believe that God created the Big Bang and evolution
  • Incarnation
    Becoming flesh, human
  • Central Christian belief that God took on human form as Jesus. John 1:14 "The Word become flesh and lived amongst us". Christians believe Jesus was fully God and fully human-truly the Son of God
  • Important belief because it shows Christians how to live, as Jesus did
  • Jesus' life
    1. Worked for about 3 years
    2. Arrested, tried and crucified
    3. Convicted of Blasphemy by Jewish Authorities
    4. Died after about 6 hours on the cross
  • Jesus' crucifixion shows he understands what it is like to suffer
  • Christians believe that Jesus had to die to fulfil God's plan. Without his death, humans could not be reunited with God and enter Heaven. Jesus sacrificed himself to atone for the sins of humanity, bringing God and man back together
  • After the crucifixion Jesus was put in a tomb but he was resurrected (brought back to life) and his tomb was found empty
  • Importance of the resurrection
    • It shows that there is life after death and death becomes less frightening
    • It shows how powerful God is which gives strength to Christians
    • It is further proof that Jesus is the Son of God and this strengthens their faith
  • After 40 days, Jesus 'ascended into Heaven' to be with God. Christians believe this shows Jesus's power-he is now 'at the right hand of the mighty God (Luke)

  • Sin
Any action or thought that separates humans from God. Behaviour that goes against God's wishes
  • Original sin
A Christian doctrine that says everyone is born with a built-in urge to do bad things and disobey God. Comes from the story of Adam and Eve who sinned
  • Salvation
Achieved through good works, obeying God's law and through grace-a gift that is freely given to us and his teachings
  • Christians believe the Bible has laws such as The Ten Commandments which guide people how to behave
  • Main Christian denominations
    • Catholic
    • Protestant
    • Orthodox
  • Christianity is monotheistic, believing in one Supreme Being God
  • Christians believe in creation by God, the act by which God brought the universe into being
  • Involvement in creation
    • God the Father, chose to design and create the earth and all life
    • The Holy Spirit was active in the creation (Genesis 1.1-31)
    • The Word (God the Son of Jesus) was active in the creation (John 1:1-3)
  • The Trinity, therefore, existed from the beginning and was involved in the creation
  • The gospels say that after Jesus died and was buried, he rose from the dead. This event is known as the resurrection
  • The ascension of Jesus took place 40 days after his resurrection, when he returned to God the Father in heaven
  • There would be no Christian faith without the resurrection
  • Many Christians believe God's judgement will result in eternal reward or eternal punishment
  • Heaven
The state or place of eternal happiness and peace in the presence of God
