Oscillations

Cards (5)

  • Simple harmonic motion is a motion of a particle above a fixed point such that its acceleration is proportional to its displacement from the fixed point and is always directed towards the opposite direction.
  • Damping is the decrease in the amplitude of a vibrating body due to loss of energy in doing work against resistive force.
  • Free oscillations is oscillations with constant amplitude as no energy is lost or gain by the oscillating body.
  • Forced oscillation is oscillation driven by an external oscillator which provides continuous energy to the oscillating body.
  • Resonace is the tendency of a system to oscillate with greater amplitude at resonant frequency.
