What plate is this?
Destructive
plate
What plate is this?
Constructive
plate
what plate is this?
Conservative
plate
What two plates are used in destructive plate margins?
Oceanic
and
continental
plates
How are destructive plate margin volcanos formed?
1)As the
oceanic
and
continental
plates
collide
the oceanic plate
subducts
because it is
denser
than the
continental
plate
2)The plate sinks into the
mantle
and melts to form
magma
3) The pressure of the
magma
builds up and begins to build
4) The magma escapes through
weakness
in the rock
5)This creates a
composite
volcano
How are shield volcanos formed at a constructive plate margin?
1)At a
constructive
plate the two
plates
begin to
move apart
2)When this happens
magma rises
through the gap
3) This creates a
shield
volcano
4)The movement of the plates can also cause
earthquakes
How do earthquakes happen at conservative plate margins?
1)
Two
plates move
past
eachother at
different speeds
2) as the plates move
friction
occurs because they
stick
and
slip
3)
pressure
begins to build up
4) When that
pressure
is released it sends out
huge
amounts of energy causing an
earthquake
What is the ring of fire?
A group of
volcanos
located along the
plate
margin of the
pacific
plate.
The
inner
core is in the
centre
and is the
hottest
part of the
Earth.
It is
solid
and made up of
iron
and
nickel
with temperatures of up to
5,500°C.
The
outer
core is the
layer
surrounding the
inner
core. It is a
liquid
layer, also made up of
iron
and
nickel.
]The
mantle
is the
thickest
section of the Earth at approximately
2,900
km. The mantle is made up of
semi-molten
rock called
magma.
The
crust
is the
thinnest
layer of the
Earth
at around
6km
deep. It is composed mainly of
granite
and
basaltic
rocks.
