Thermoregulation

Cards (7)

  • Thermoregulation is the control of our internal body temperature.
  • In order to warm up, the body constricts blood flow near our skin, so less heat is lost. And make our hairs stand creating insulating air.
  • In order to warm up, we shiver. The energy used to shiver releases heat.
  • When youre TOO HOT:
    • Sweat glands produce sweat and heat evaporates with it, which transfers energy to the environment.
    • The blood vessels under the skin dilate.(Vasodilation) so more blood flows and also transfers energy.
  • When you're TOO COLD:
    • Hair stands up creating a insulating layer of air.
    • The blood vessels constrict blood supply.(Vasconstriction)
    • We also shiver using respiration to release energy and warm the body.
  • The Temeperature receptors detect if the body temp is too high or low. The thermoregulatory centre recieves the information and triggers the effectors which are the sweat glands or muscles.
  • In order to cool down, our blood vessels dilate (Vasolidation) to release heat to surroundings(exothermic). We produce sweat, when it evaporates it takes heat with it.
