  • Nanoparticles are tiny particles that are 1-100nm in size.
  • As particles decrease in size, the size of their surface area to volume ratio increases.
  • Silver nanoparticles have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, they can be added to polymer fibers to make surgical masks and wound dressings. Also used in antiseptic sprays, refrigerators linings, socks and deodorants.
  • Titanium dioxide nanoparticles are being used in sun creams to prevent UV light from reaching the skin
  • Although nanoparticles are useful, long-term effects aren't fully understood. Such as damage to cells or the environment.
