    1. Move the decimal point right for multiplication
    2. Move the decimal point left for division
    3. Add zeros if needed to maintain number of digits
  • Multiplying or dividing decimals by powers of 10
    • 36.57 x 10 = 365.7
    • 78.375 x 100 = 7837.5
    • 0.0095 x 1000 = 9.5
    • 36.7 / 10 = 3.67
    • 5.8 / 10 = 0.58
    • 0.0475 / 100 = 0.000475
  • To multiply by 10^a, move the decimal point a places right. To divide by 10^a, move the decimal point a places left.
