  • Defining Principles

  • Strengths
    • Research within social area can help improve our understanding of human behaviour, particularly the extent to which this is effected by other people
    • Research within social area can be extremely useful, having practical applications in a range of different settings

    • Often helps to bring psychology to a wider audience given the way in which research often seeks to explain real-world experiences
    • Often high in ecological validity, particularly if it makes use of field experiments.
  • Weaknesses
    • Findings from research may not be true for all the time (as social situations may change over time)
    • Given the socially sensitive nature of the social area, it is difficult to stay within the ethical guidelines
    • Boundaries can become blurred between social area + cognitive area (particularly when looking at social confrontation)
