Reasons for the emergence of the Cold War

• The USA and USSR's marriage of convenience broke up after the Nazi's were defeated
• The creation of the buffer zone means the USSR temporarily controls many Eastern European countries - which became communist
• Spying from both sides to see any military developments and the use of spy planes to take photographs created distrust
