  • 5 Basic rules of basketball
    • The game is played with a round ball and with the hands
    • A player cannot run with the ball
    • Any player can take up any position on the playing court at any time
    • There shall be no physical contact between players

  • Dr. James Naismith's Original 13 Rules

    • The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands
    • The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands
    • A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance is made for a man who catches the ball when running if the tries to stop
    • The ball must be hold by the hands
    • No shouldering, holding, pushing, tripping, or striking in any way opponent shall be allowed; first infringement of this rule by any player shall come as a foul, the second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made, or, if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole period of the game, no substitute allowed
    • A foul is striking the ball with the fist
    • If either side make 3 consecutive fouls it shall count as a goal for the opponents (consecutive means without the opponents in the meantime making a foul)
    • A goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or batted from the grounds into the basket and stays there, providing those defending the goal not to touch or disturb the goal. If the ball rest on the edges, and the opponent's moves the basket, it shall count as a goal
    • When the ball goes out of bounds, it shall beg thrown into the field of play by the person touching it. He has a right to hold it unmolested for five seconds. In case of a dispute the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The thrower – in is allowed 5 seconds. If he holds it longer it shall go to the opponent. If any rules persist in delaying the game the umpire shall call a foul on that side
    • The umpire shall be judged of the ball and shall note the fouls and notify the referee when 3 consecutive fouls have been made. He shall have the power to disqualify men according to Rule#5
    • The referee shall be judged of the ball and shall decide when the ball is in play, in bounds, to which side it will belong, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when the goal has been made and keep account of the goals, with any other duties that are usually performed by the referee
    • There shall be two 15 minute halves, with 5 minute rest between
    • The side making the most goals in the time shall be declared as the winner. In the case of a draw the game may, by agreement of the captains, be continued until another goal is made

  • Passing
    The quickest and most effective way to get the ball from player to player. The perfect end result of a well-executed pass will be a pass made to an open teammate. A good assist has the same importance and attraction as scoring a goal.

    Dribbling with one hand, the dribbler get close to his defender pushing the ball out in front of him over the other hand, exploding past him

    The dribbler moves the ball from side of his body to another by swinging it behind and cross his back to change direction and get loose from his opponents

    A quick way to move the ball from one hand to another between the legs when the dribbler is closely guarded or when he wants to change direction

    Dribbling to change direction by bounding the ball from one hand to another, the dribbler rotates quickly around his defender
